The next bout of Japanese Olympic Middleweight champion Ryota Murata (3-0, 3) was announced earlier today in a Teiken press conference in Tokyo.
The announcement was that Murata's next bout will be a 10 round Middleweight contest that will take place on May 22nd at the Shimazu Arena in Kyoto.
Sadly with the bout announced to take place just 5 and a half weeks away you can probably guess that the opponent wasn't a big name one, instead it will be Mexican Jesus Angel Nerio (12-3, 6).
Nerio, known as "Dandy", was last seen in a ring last October when he was stopped in 6 by the highly regarded Jose Uzcategui, who is currently ranked #5 by the WBO at Super Middleweight.
For many the choice of Nerio as an opponent is a disappointing one due to the opposition that Murata has faced so far. What needs to be considered though is that this is Murata's first 10 round bout and he is in with a tough opponent who took recent world title challenger Marco Antonio Periban 8 rounds just over 2 years ago. This is effectively a stay busy fight for Murata who will be in the ring later this year in either Singapore or Macau.
The announcement also state that Murata will be flying back over to the US to go and train in Las Vegas for this contest with the next month or so being spent stateside.
The bout, for those wondering, will be televised on Fuji TV at 23:00 Tokyo time in what we will be assuming is a recorded broadcast.
At the moment no other bouts for this show have been announced though with ringside seats costing less than 20,000 yen (less than $200 or less than £120) we don't imagine that the show will have another high profile bout on it
