Japanese Middleweight hopeful Ryota Murata (6-0, 4) might only be at the start of his professional career though, like every other fighter, he knows where the money lies in the world of professional boxing, Floyd Mayweather Jr (47-0, 26).
Murata, who was speaking on TV channel WOWOW in Japan as part of a fan event, said that he would be open to dropping to Light Middleweight for a bout with the American superstar if there was a chance the bout could be made. He seemed to suggest that it was the type of bout he was hoping to get and would be a chance to expand his name around the world.
Although the comments were made with some seriousness we suspect that Murata knows fair well that the bout is not going to materialise, much like when Filipino fighter Dennis Laurente called out Mayweather last year. It is worth noting however that Murata seems to feel he could make Light Middleweight if he needed to. This could open up opportunities for the Olympic champion who is known to be looking for a world title fight later in the year.
At the moment we're not certain on Murata's next bout though it does seem likely to be in the Spring and could well be on the same card as Naoya Inoue's (8-0, 7) first defense of his WBO Super Flyweight title, given the two men are contracted to the same TV network, Fuji TV, and have often been shown together.
