Earlier today the media got a chance to see Ryota Murata (4-0, 4) take part in an open training session ahead of his September 5th bout with Mexican Middleweight champion Adrian Luna Flores (17-2-1, 11).
The session, held at the Teiken Gym in Tokyo, saw Murata sparring 3 rounds with American Light Heavyweight Lionell Thompson (15-3, 9). Thompson, who had flown out to be part of the Murata camp, looked chubby and slow compared to the fast and sharp Murata who looked in great shape and really ready to go. The natural speed advantages of Murata were amplified by the fact Thompson was out of shape.
For those who recognise the name of Thompson he was stopped in 3 rounds back in 2012 by Sergey Kovalev. Sadly for the American he has also lost a pair of decision though he is still regarded as a contender at 175lbs. That 15lbs weight advantage would have helped Thompson take the shots but he didn't seem to reply with too much in return.
Following the training session Murata restated his intention to stop Flores when they meet.
