Next week we will see Yukinori Oguni's (19-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] make his first defense of the IBF Super Bantamweight title as he battles mandatory challenger Ryosuke Iwasa (23-2, 15) [岩佐 亮佑].
Today, ahead of their bout, Iwasa took part in a public work out and media session.
Iwasa seemed to suggest that this was his last chance, following a loss in 2015 to Lee Haskins in a previous world title, and it was clear that he has has been preparing hard for this bout. Part of that has seen him sparring with top fighters, including Nonito Donaire, and trying to spar with the best partners he can. That hardwork in training has seen Iwasa in great shape, and he's now only 1KG, or 2.2lbs, above the Super Bantamweight limit.
The fighter also mentioned that if he wins he will be getting a Ferrari, and people who follow Iwasa on social media will be well aware of his love of sports cars.
As for today's training session Iwasa went through a light spar with for 2 rounds, then did 2 rounds shadow boxing, 2 rounds of heavy bagwork before a round of working on elastic training. Duing the session he seemed relaxed, and in great condition, and it's clear that he has not cutany corners coming into this bout.
