Earlier today it was confirmed that Ryosuke Iwasa (18-1, 11) had vacated the OPBF Bantamweight title ahead of his IBF world title eliminator against Sergio Perales (24-2, 16) on February 18th at the Korakuen Hall. The move was a highly expected one though it's still good to know that it has actually happened.
The talented "Eagle Eye" officially sent in his submission to vacate on December 25th so that he could concentrate full on the fight with Perales. He had defended the belt once, scoring a narrow win over plucky Filipino challenger Richard Pumicpic last March, and had been eyeing up a world title fight ever since.
Although the bout with Perales isn't a world title bout it will open up a shot at the IBF champion, currently the unbeaten Randy Caballero (22-0, 13), if the Japanese fighter can pick up the expected win.
For those wanting to watch the bout between Iwasa and Perales bout we've got some good news/bad news. The good news is that the bout will be televised live in Japan however the bad news is that it will be aired on NTV G+ a channel that is notoriously difficult to see if you're living outside of Japan.
