The bout, which will be Taguchi's second defense, comes exactly a year after he won the title, out pointing Alberto Rossel. Sadly it is widely viewed as a mismatch, with De La Rosa not expected to do anything to test Taguchi. Saying that however Taguchi has taken his preparations seriously and looked razor sharp in the training session, which included a 2 round light spar and mitt work with trainer Yuta Ishihara.
The session wasn't perfect, and there was an issue at one point with the foot of Taguchi, though it was only a very minor issue that seemed to have no lasting effect with the champion moving very easily afterwards.
With the bout being regarded as a mismatch it seems clear that Taguchi is wanting to make an impression and has said he is aiming to score a KO over De La Rosa, who will be having his second bout in Asia, following a loss last year to Zou Shiming in Macau. Whilst he lost a wide decision to Shiming he has also been stopped 3 times, and we're expecting a 4th stoppage loss here.
