A rumour coming out of the US late last night was that we will see former 2-weight world champion Takahiro Ao (27-3-1, 12) fighting in the US on May 1st against former 2-time world title challenger Raymundo Beltran (29-7-1, 17), with the bout to take place in Texas.
Strangely this rumour sits well in some ways with other rumours that we had heard.
We were aware that Ao "could" be fighting in Texas on May 1st. Though the original rumour and speculation was that Ao would be fighting former Lightweight champion Juan Diaz (40-4, 19) in a bout that was ordered by the WBO as part of a 4 man tournament to fight for their Lightweight title, with the winner of that bout set to fight the unbeaten Terry Flanagan (27-0, 10).
At the moment there's been no official announcement regarding the next bout of Ao though with May 1st now being just over 7 weeks away we're expecting an announcement in the coming days.
Previous speculation about the card had also included Ryota Murata's US debut and a possible "test run" for both Takashi Miura and Shinsuke Yamanaka. As we found yesterday however both Murata and Miura will be fighting in Japan on May 1st.
