It has just been announced that fans in the US will get a rare chance to see Teiken promoted Nicaraguan sensation Roman Gonzalez (42-0, 36) in action on May 16th as the brilliant "Chocolatito" returns to US TV to battle Mexican veteran Edgar Sosa (51-8, 32).
Gonzalez, the current WBC Flyweight champion, has seen his fight added HBO as the co-feature bout for Gennady Golovkin's (32-0, 29) up coming WBA "Super" and WBC "interim" Middleweight title defense against Willie Monroe Jr (19-1, 6).
For those who haven't seen Gonzalez in action yet this is a perfect opportunity to see what the hype is about. For those who have seen him then this is a great reason to get incredibly excited about a card that seemed likely to be remembered for the apparent mismatch of the main event. We're not suggesting that Gonzalez Vs Sosa will be hugely competitive but it will be a lot of fun and a great chance to see another top pound-for-pound fighter in action.
Gonzalez has fought 3 of his last 4 bouts in Japan, including his brilliant win over Akira Yaegashi last September, whilst he has fought 9 times there in total. That has obviously allowed Japanese fans to become familiar with the exciting Nicaraguan fighter and many are hoping to see a bout between Gonzalez and Naoya Inoue later in the year. As for US fans, this will only be Gonzalez's 4th bout in the country and amazingly his first since his 2012 FOTY contender against Juan Francisco Estrada. Hopefully American fan's won't need to wait until 2017 for Gonzalez to fight in the US for the 5th time!
