Earlier today boxing royalty arrived in Japan as Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez (40-0, 34) arrived at Narita airport ahead of his upcoming WBC Flyweight world title defense against Rocky Fuentes (35-7-2, 20) which is scheduled for November 22nd.
Although Gonzalez is still more than 2 weeks away from his fight he is Japan putting finishing touches to his preparations.
Part of the reason for the early arrival is the fact that it took 18 hours to travel from Nicaragua to Japan. Despite the long travel Gonzalez was polite to reporters and said that he loved Japan, a country that has taken him under their wing despite the fact he has beaten some of their best fighters, including a recent victory over Akira Yaegashi to claim the WBC Flyweight title.
Another part of the reasoning behind Gonzalez's early arrival is that he still has weight to lose before the fight and will be working on that over the coming days.
Although we suspect Gonzalez will be too good, too powerful and too fast for Fuentes we are genuinely looking forward to the bout which will be aired in Japan on one of the WOWOW channels and we suspect will also be aired on Canal 4 in Nicaragua.
