A little while ago Nicaraguan sensation Roman Gonzalez (39-0, 33) travelled to Japan ahead of his up coming mega fight with Akira Yaegashi on September 5th. It's been in Japan that he's been putting final touches towards his training for the Yaegashi clash and has been adapting to the time zone change and culture whilst also losing weight in preparation for the fight.
Earlier today Gonzalez took part in an open training session which saw him sparring with Japanese Light Flyweight champion Yu Kimura and the Nicaraguan looked in fine form despite not giving too much away about his game plan or tactics.
From what we've been told Gonzalez stated that this fight was the most important of his career as it was a chance for him to become a 3-weight world champion tying the Nicaraguan national record held by Gonzalez's hero Alexis Arguello, one of boxing's all time good guys. As always though Gonzalez was respectful of the challenge he is about to face and had nothing negative to say about Yaegashi, though he did promise a war, something we do expect every time either of these men get in the ring together.
