It's fair to say that fans in Osaka on Wednesday had a great time with some brilliant fights, including a very memorable WBA Flyweight title contest. It also needs to be said that fans in Tokyo had a great time at the Korakuen Hall courtesy of an equally entertaining, albeit lower profile, card.
The main event in Tokyo saw Japanese based Filipino Ricky Sismundo (28-8-1, 12) take a very notable win over former Japanese Lightweight champion Akihiro Kondo (21-6-1, 10) in a bout that lived up to the expectations.
From the opening round the bout was exciting and began with Kondo being the aggressor and Sismundo being the intelligent counter-puncher though by the end the roles had shifted with the action being enthralling from the opening round to the final bell.
The action was great with both men putting it on the line. Unfortunately however for Kondo he failed to impress the judges as he would have wished and ended up losing the bout by split decision so Sismundo who will almost certainly be looking for a title bout later in the year.
Entering the bout Kondo was unranked whilst Sismundo was ranked by both the OPBF and the JBC and he'll be hoping that the win gives his ranking a considerable boost, something that is possible given Kondo's past in the sport..
