In March we reported that Filipino Randy Petalcorin (23-1-1, 18) was hoping to defend his WBA "interim" Light Flyweight against Omari Kimweri (15-3, 6) on April 15th. As it stands today however the bout will no longer be for the interim title that Petalcorin holds, instead it seems that the Filipino will be facing Kimweri for the WBC "silver" title, instead.
At the moment there is some confusion about which title Petalcorin and Kimweri will be fighting for, with some sources reporting that the bout is going to be at Flyweight instead of Petalcorin's more natural Light Flyweight, there is also a rumour that Petalcorin is going to be forced to hand over his WBA "interim" belt.
Sadly for Petalcorin it seems it's become a case of needing to fight, and coming in to this bout he has been inactive for close to a year, and has amazingly fought just twice, for a combined 8 rounders, in the last 24 months. His inactivity has sadly caused a complete end to his career momentum.
Hopefully clear details on the bout will emerge, though it seems likely that if Petalcorin wins he will become the WBC mandatory, at which ever weight this bout ends up taking place at.
Note-The poster for the bout is currently giving the incorrect details, hopefully an updated one will become available before fight time.
