The Korean boxing scene isn't the strongest though credit needs to be given to any promoter willing to try and bring attention to it. With that said big credit needs to be given to Andy Kim, the president of AK Promotions, who has seemingly began to set up a really notable Korean show for October 4th.
Previously we had reported that Pakistan amateur star Muhammad Waseem was set to make his professional debut on October 4th in a KBC title fight, it appears that Waseem won't be the only international attraction on the card with both Randall Bailey (45-8-0-1, 38) and Robert Alfonso (6-0, 2) also scheduled to be in action, whilst world famous trainer Jeff Mayweather is expected to work the corner.
American puncher Bailey is the better known of the fighters currently lined up for the card. He is, of course, a former 2 weight world champion who was known for having dynamite in both hands. Mr Kim has informed us that the plan is for Bailey to fight in a 10 round contest, against a yet to be named foe. When he steps in the ring Bailey will be 41 years old but the Florida native will still be one of the most notable fighters to have competed in Korea since the turn of the millennium, following the drastic down turn in the Korean boxing scene.
Whilst Bailey is coming to the end of his career Alfonso is just beginning his and the American based Cuban is viewed as a potential "one to watch" in the Heavyweight division. He's being penciled in for an 8 round bout in what will be his third bout of the year.
At the moment neither Bailey nor Alfonso have had an opponent announced for the show but it's hoped that opponents will be announced shortly.
As Mayweather, he'll not just be working the corner for the two Florida based fighters but is also expected to do a clinic for Korean fighters.
