Perez, an Argentinian 35 year old known as "Cachito", is unbeaten since 2003 and appeared very confident of scoring a win over his Japanese foe who he seemed to suggest had a "poor defense". Not only was Jimenez confident but he seemed to feel he was ready for this opportunity. In fact he reminded people that he was supposed to fight in a world title fight back in 2008 against Edwin Valero before he got injured, and Valero ended up fighting against Takehiro Shimada. Incidentally Perez does hold a win in the amateurs against Valero.
In regards to his training Perez hit the mitts and did some shadow boxing. Although he looked like he had solid power and speed he did look like a great fighter and, at least from this session, shouldn't give Uchiyama too many problems.
