Palangpol, who first made his name in Muay Thai where he fought as Palangpol Chuwattana, fought as a boxer for the third time this year and over-came Indonesian veteran Heri Amol (34-17-4, 14) via an 8th round TKO to secure the WBA Asia 112lb title. A very impressive result despite Palangol's experience in Muay Thai.
Although Amol has started to rack up losses a lot of them have come to very well regarded fighters, such as Donnie Nietes, Pornsawan Porpramook, Suriyan Sor Rungvisai, the tragic Yo-Sam Choi, Kazuto Ioka-who Amol actually dropped, and more recently Wanheng Menayothin. For Palangpol to even have his name mentioned alongside those man is a great achievement, especially considering his novice status.
Whilst we unfortunately missed the fight we were told that Palangpol was always on the front foot, very aggressive and whilst his lack of head movement may be an issue he got away with it here due to his powerful and heavy handed hooks.
On the same show there was also a win for the very highly ranked Wanheng Menayothin (34-0, 11) who stopped the over-matched Domi Nenokeba (11-17-1, 7) in the 4th round of a scheduled 6 rounder.
(We'd like to thank James Goyder for the information regarding Palangpol)
