The story over the last 24 hours has developed from "no news in Japan, could be a bad thing" to "Yup, this is all systems go, announcement to come soon!"
From what we understand the deal has been finalised with the bout to take place in Osaka between the two men with the Japanese fighter going down from Featherweight, where he holds the OPBF title, to fight at Super Bantamweight against Rigondeaux, who currently holds the WBA "super" and WBO titles.

The updated situation came courtesy of the Kyoei gym chairman who gave away more details of the bout in 12 hours than had been mentioned in the previous week and also posted a picture of Amagasa training on a lovely looking beach, see image, ahead of the fight which came soon after a previous tweet in Spanish stating:
"Amagasa ha entrado en el campo de entrenamiento para la pelea de título mundial Guillermo Rigondeaux y 31 de diciembre"
For our English speakers that translates, roughly, as:
"Amagasa entered the training camp for the world title fight Guillermo Rigondeaux December 31".
Although the bout now appears to have been confirmed we're awaiting complete details of the bout. We had suspect, originally before we became full of doubt, that the bout would be part of the Ioka card at the Bodymaker Colosseum. That is still certainly possibly, and would significantly strengthen the Ioka card. Though could it be that Kyoei themselves are going to a new years eve show? We suspect we will find out more in the coming days alongside an official announcement, though the news is certainly the most exciting information we've had since the bout was first mentioned.
We would like to thank Keiichiro Kanehira, the head of Kyoei boxing, for the major updates, which has also seen him indicate that the fight "was signed", as we were genuinely worried that we had gotten excited over nothing, instead it appears we got worried over nothing.
