Acording to various sources we'll see the long awaited ring return of Filipino star Nonito Donaire (37-4, 24) on September 23rd, ending a 10 month break from action for the multi-weight champion.
The heavy handed, and always popular Donaire, has been out of the ring since losing the WBO Super Bantamweight title to Jesse Magdaleno last November, and after taking sometime away from the sport recently re-emerged in Japan where he has been training along side his friend, and current Japanese Bantamweight champion Ryo Akaho. That training has been part of his comeback to the ring which will take place in San Antonio, Texas.
The comeback for Donaire will see him take on the tough and aggressive Ruben Garcia Hernandez (22-2-1, 9), who has won his last 7 since suffering a 7th round loss to Randy Caballero back in early 2016. His competition hasn't been the toughest, but he has proven his ability on the road as he's picked upwins in Mexico, Germany, the Dominican Republic and the US.
The bout should be a tune up fior Donaire who will be looking to return to top tier fights next year, after he has shaken some ring rust and gotinto top fighting shape.
