Earlier this week it was announced that Japanese and OPBF Middleweight champion Hikaru Nishida (15-7-1, 7) [西田 光] has got his next two bouts pencilled in.
We have known, for a while, that Nishida would be defending his OPBF title against unbeaten Australian Dwight Ritchie (13-0-0-4, 1) on June 7th at the Korakuen Hall. This past week saw an announcement that Nishida would be back in the ring against in September to defend his Japanese title.
At the moment we've not been informed of who Nishida will be defending his national title against though he is expected to be fighting on September 14th at the Korakuen Hall.
The September bout will be Nishida's first Japanese title defense and see looking to prove himself as the best fighter, at 160lbs, on the Japanese domestic scene. And from what we under-stand that bout will be a mandatory title defense, if so, then it's likely that Nishida would be facing the big punching Tomohiro Ebisu (15-4, 15) [胡 朋宏], himself a former Japanese Middleweight champion.
