Just a few hours ago Yu Kimura managed to claim the Japanese Ligth Flyweight title in a very close decision victory. A few hours after that Filipino upset king Rey Loreto (18-13, 10) managed to claim the IBO Light Flyweight title with a stunning KO upset over South African Nkosinathi Joyi (24-3-0-1, 17).
Loreto, who we had said was an "under-dog who liked to bite", was competitive in the opening round and rocked Joyi in round 2. Although Joyi had been saved by the bell in the second round he hadn't recovered and Loreto jumped on him in round 3 before landing a bomb on Joyi which sent the South African down hard.
Joyi, who had defeated the likes of Katsunari Takayama and Florante Condes, was a major favourite though we are so glad Rey managed to get this win and hopefully he'll be getting another major bout. This was his second successive notable upset, having beaten Pornsawan Porpramook last year and maybe, just maybe, it's time he got a fight at one of the "proper" world champions
