Yesterday we saw Hiroto Kyoguchi (8-0, 6) [京口 紘人] claim the IBF Minimumweight title as he out-pointed tough Mexican Jose Argumedo (20-4-1, 12) in Tokyo.
Today a swollen looking Kyoguchi took part in a press conference, alongside WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (26-2-2, 12) [田口良一] and Japanese Super Flyweight champion Ryuichi Funai (28-7, 19) [船井 龍一].
Although his right cheek looked a swollen mess Kyoguchi couldn't stop smiling following a career best win. He claimed that facing the rough Argumedo was good experience and that he intends to become stronger as a champion.
It should be noted that no one seemed to clearly state what the injury Kyoguchi suffered was, but it's obvious that he will stay out of the gym for a while, until he recovers.
When he recovers he will have to make a mandatory defense of the title, with that expected before the end of 2017 against Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago (30-2-1, 17), who had been pencilled in to face Argumedo in September on the Golovkin Vs Alvarez under-card.
Before the press conference was over Kyoguchi spoke about the recent arrest of his older brother Ryuto Kyoguchi (15-2-1, 11) [京口 竜人], who was caught driving under the influence. Hiroto apologised for his brothers' disgression and seemed to suggest that he was a bit ashamed of his brother's actions.
