Earlier today at the Korakuen Hall a number of notable fighters took part in a "Boxing Day" event. Among those fighters was Japanese wunderkind Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7) who had a sensational 2014 claiming the WBC Light Flyweight title in just his 6th professional bout and the WBO Super Flyweight title in his 8th bout.
Inoue has, unfortunately, been inactive since claiming the WBO title with a destructive performance against Omar Andres Narvaez. The inactivity was caused by issues to his right hand though thankfully it seems those issues are behind him.
According to the media Inoue stated to those at today's that he was hoping to be back in the ring in summer to make the first defense of his world title. It wasn't a clear "I will be back in summer" but it was a strong hint that Inoue is almost fully recovered and almost ready to focus on his next opponent.
We know that, in the past, the hope was for Inoue to fight in August and it seems that his comments today again point to a probably August return before a possible second fight in December, maybe the much talked about clash with Nicaraguan sensational Roman Gonzalez (42-0, 36).
For those who have forgotten how good Inoue looked last time out, we've included his fight with Narvaez below.
