This past weekend was a significant one for world boxing, without being a massive one. Part of that significance was the third bout between Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, a bout that resulted in both men being removed from the Ring TV top 10 pound-for-pound fighters. Bradley's loss saw him drop out whilst Pacquiao's retirement saw him being removed.
As a result of that we've seen two new entrants into the top 10, at #10 we now find unbeaten Brit Kell Brook whilst at #9 we find Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (9-0, 8) [井上 尚弥], who joins fellow unbeaten Japanese world champion Shinsuke Yamanaka [山中慎介], ranked #8, in the top 10.
The fact Inoue has broken into the rankings this early in his career is very impressive and seems to be a realisation that his talent is genuine and that he is one of the sports truly elite fighters.
The rest of the top 10 featurs potential Inoue opponent Roman Gonzalez (#1), Russian destroyer Sergey Kovalev (#2), Middleweight sensation Gennady Golovkin (#3), unbeaten American Andre Ward (#4), frustrating Cuban Guillermo Rigondeaux (#5), multi-facted Terence Crawford (#6) and popular Mexican Saul Alvarez (#7)..
