This coming Saturday we'll see WBO Super Flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (14-0, 12) [井上 尚弥] make his 7th defense of the title as he takes on French challenger Yoan Boyeaux (41-4, 26) in Yokohama. The bout is likely to be Inoue's final contest as a Super Flyweight before moving up to Bantamweigt in 2018 to chase glory and a third divisional world title, following a frustrating few months in various negotiations for Super Flyweight unification bouts.
Today Inoue and Boyeaux too part in the signing ceremony for their bout, with both seeming confident throughout.
At the event today Inoue stated that his condition is as good as usual and that he's just waiting for the weigh in tomorrow. His confidence showed stating that he would win by KO and that he was going to do it his way, before moving up to Bantamweight next time out. He spoke about how he had had a big match at Super Flyweight against Omar Narzvaez, and it seemed like he ws wanting more big bouts, and sees them as being more likely to happen at Bantamweight. Unlike many fighters who have claimed to be ducked whilst making offers to other top fighters Inoue is now seemingly focused on chasing bigger fighters for big bouts, something that others have perhaps got to follow the trend of.
Boyeaux on the other hand stated that he had prepared thoroughly for the contest and was going to use intelligent boxing to surprise the Japanese fans. He was now joined by his team, who had issues getting to Japan on the same day as he'd arrived, and looked confident and relaxed ahead of the biggest bout of his career.
After the fighters had spoke Inoue's manager Hideyuki Ohashi spoke about fighting Zolani Tete and it seems like that could be the avenue that Inoue and his team begin to pursue in 2018.
At the ceremony the ighters also selected their gloves for the bout. Inoue will be in black gloves whilst Boyeaux will be wearing blue gloves.
