Earlier this month saw the announcement that WBO Female Flyweight champion Nana Yoshikawa (7-1, 4) [好川 菜々] would return to the ring on April 29th to defend her title against Mexican challenger Monserrat Alarcon (8-3-2).
Yesterday, ahead of that bout, Yoshikawa spent time with Osami Takeyama, the Sakai city Mayor.
The meeting saw Yoshikawa and her team talk about the upcoming bout, and admit that this was the hardest time ahead of the preparation for the bout, with Yoshikawa having about 4.5KG's to lose by the weigh in.
The champion also seemed to make it clear that she was wanting to act as a focal point for Sakai City, and is looking to be a key sporting representative for the area. She might not be a big name for the sport but as a world champion she is a sporting figurehead for the local region and for female boxing in general, and any attention she can get is a good thing right now.
