Earlier this year we saw Daishi Nagata (9-1-1, 4) [永田 大士] suffer his first professional defeat, as he was stopped in 7 rounds by "Destino Japan". Today the former amateur stand out returned to the ring for the first time since that loss and took on Korean visitor Yong In Jo (7-3-2, 2), in what looked like a well matched bout bout on paper.
Although well matched on paper the differences in ability between the two men was stark, with Nagata taking a clear decision win over the visitor, to get his career back on track.
Jo pressed the fight in the early going, puttingNagata under pressure. That pressure however was ineffective as Nagata used his skills, speed and ring craft to hit and not get hit early on, showing real skills and movement to control the bout with his jab. In round 4 Jo's pressure began to have some success, as he cut the distance and took Nagata to the ropes, it was however a rare success for the visitor, with Nagata picking up the pace again in round 5 and stopped the moment of Jo.
To his credit Jo refused to accept the loss and continued pressing in the final stages, but couldn't match Nagat, who took the win in the 8 round bout with scores of 79-73 and 79-74, twice. Despite the loss Jo impressed with his aggression and toughness, and hopefully we will see him in a another fight of note in early 2018. For Nagata it was a good win on his ring return and will hopefully help him kick on.
For fans wanting to watch this bout it will be added to the Boxingraise service as a video on demand in the very near future, along with the rest of the card.
