Japan's Ryota Murata (2-0, 2) is, as some may know, currently out in the USA training ahead of his February 22nd bout with Brazilian Carlos Nascimento (29-3, 23). Nascimento may be the target for Murata in the immediate future but he's not the only Brazilian fighter that will be in Murata's mind after he met up with former amateur foe Esquiva Falcão Florentino (0-0).
Falcao, who makes his professional debut on February 15th, recently signed with the same promoter as Murata, America's Top Rank Incorporate. The two men, who seem to have genuine respect for each other, were together at the Top Rank Gym.
The two men fought each other in 2 major amateur bouts, the 2012 Olympic final and the 2011 World Amateur Championship with Murata winning both.
Whilst at the gym Falcao prepared for his upcoming bout by sparring unbeaten American Jessie Vargas, whilst Murata had a sparring session of his own, apparently with amateur Brian Finney as he prepares for his bout with Nascimento.
With the history of the two men their mutual respect should come as no surprise though with both being signed to Top Rank one can't help but hope that one day we get Murata v Falcao III, hopefully with a world title on the line.
