In later February we reported that former world champion Yong Soo Choi (29-4-1, 19) [최용수] was set to make a ring return, more than 12 years after his last fight, against Japanese fighter fighter Kazuya Nakano (9-5-1, 7) [中野 和也]. At the time the details were relatively scarce, though there was enough to know the two men would be fighting in Korea.
Yesterday more details were released on the bout.
Firstly the bout will not be sanctioned by the KBC (Korean Boxing Commission), as was reported in some Japanese sources, instead it will be sanctioned by rival outfit the KBF (Korean Boxing Federation). The KBF have, at times, been treated like a lesser commission but they appear to have strong connections with Japanese promoters which are likely to be strengthened with this bout.
Secondly the bout, which is set to be a 10 round contest at a 61KG contracted weight, will act as the main event on a show the features a further 21 bouts. those bouts will all be semi-finals in the KBF's "Rookie of the Year" tournament.
The bout will take place at the Chungnam High School gym in Dangjin, not Seoul as originally thought, and the weigh in will take place at a nearby hospital.
From the KBF's recent update the bout hasn't yet got any TV coverage lined up at the moment.
