On January 3rd we reported that we'd see Momo Koseki (19-2-1, 6) back in the ring to record her 15th world title defence. At the time we were unaware of who Koseki would be fighting though we knew her bout wouldn't be the main event and at best it was going to be a chief support bout and a secondary world title fight. Sadly it's turned out to be even worse than we'd anticipated.
We had hoped that Koseki would be fighting someone interesting but instead she will be up against Filipino challenger Aisah Alico (5-4, 4), a 23 year old dubbed "D'Striker". On paper Alico's record is poor, though gives the hint she might have some power. In reality however little is truly known about Alico's power with her 5 wins coming against opponents with a combined record of 0-2, yes 0-2. Every time she has faced a fighter with a win she has been stopped, and that has included 4 of her last 5 bouts.
We can "excuse" a couple of those loses, such as coming up short against Thailand's Samson Tor Buamas and Japan's Yuko Kuroki however we can't excuse the fact she's got a world title bout without a win in the last 2 years.
We understand it's very difficult to get Koseki good opponents but this really is scraping the barrel and a slight insult to both the fans and to the very talented champion who deserves to be tested.
