Just a month ago we saw Milan Melindo (35-2, 13) score a career defining win to claim the IBF Light Flyweight title, stopping popular Japanese warrior Akira Yaegashi (25-6, 13) [八重樫 東] in a divisional record setting 165 seconds.
Today it was revealed that Melindo will return to the ring on September 9th, in Cebu City, to make his first defense of the title. With that bout taking place at the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in what will be the main event of "Pinoy Pride 42".
At the moment no opponent is set for the Filipino but there are a lot of interesting match ups that he could be involved in. For example clashes with fellow Filipino Randy Petalcorin (26-2-1, 19), who is the highest ranked challenger, or Jesse Espinas (16-2, 11) would be a big deal, likewise a bout with Hekkie Budler (31-2, 10) or Felix Alvarado (29-2, 25) would both strongly strengthen Melindo's reputation.
At the moment little else is known about the card, but it will be a good chance for ALA to give some of their notable prospect a chance the limelight on the under-card.
