On New Year's Eve fight fans get a triple header in Japan, with the main event of that card being a Light Flyweight unification bout between WBA Light Flyweight champion Ryoichi Taguchi (26-2-2, 12) [田口良一] and IBF champion Milan Melindo (37-2, 13).
Today Melindo took part in a public work out for that bout and sounded very confident, suggesting that his former victim Akira Yaegashi was better than Taguchi and that he was looking forward to adding that WBC and WBO titles to his collection in the future.
When asked about his strategy Melindo stated that he was keeping his gameplan a secret, but has studied the strengths and weaknesses of Taguchi.
Unlike earlier this year, when he fought Yaegashi, Melindo seemed relaxed, even breaking into an occassional smile for the press whilst stating that he was hoping for a good fight.
As for the actual work out Melindo worked the mitts ith his trainer and looked razor sharp with his shots, impressing with his technique. He impressed all, though Yuta Ishihara, who was there scouting from Taguchiu's team, did suggest he had seen a weak point with Melindo.
