In the chief support bout at today's "Pinoy Pride XXV" fans got to see the very highly regarded Milan Melindo (31-1, 12) in action. Sadly for Melindo however his day turned out not to be as good as he had expected and although he managed to claim a victory, out pointing Mexico's Martin Tecuapetla (11-6-2, 8), he really did fail to wow the crowd.
Earlier this week Melindo had apparently said his skills were on par with Floyd Mayweather Jr, sadly it seems like he actually believed it. With that in mind he seemed to think all he had to do was just turn up to win. Tecuapetla had other ideas and really gave Melindo a hard time pushing him hard in every single round, there wasn't ever any time where Melindo looked in charge and instead he looked hurried, rushed and like he was unsure of what was coming at him.
Although Melindo managed to take home a victory many felt he had been fortunate with scorecards of 116-112, 115-113 and 114-114 awarding him a very debatable majority decision.
Despite the fact Melindo had looked very capable last year when he fought Juan Francisco Estrada it seems unlikely he'll ever manage to become a world champion and if this performance is a sign of what to come he may not even remain a top contender for long. We've got to admit we know Melindo is better than he looked here, but today he was hugely disappointing.
