Sabillo, one of just 3 active Filipino champions, will make his return on March 22nd as he travels to Mexico and takes on dangerous Mexican youngster Francisco Rodriguez Jr (13-2, 9).
The bout, scheduled to be on the under-card of Erik Morales's bout with Jorge Paez Jr, will be Sabillo's 3rd defense of his world title following a very close and hotly contested draw with Nicaraguan Carlos Buitrago. Interestingly Buitrago's highly regarded compatriot Roman Gonzalez was the last man to beat Rodriguez, with "El Chocolatito" stopping the tough Mexican youngster in the the 7th round.
Although Rodriguez is just 20 years he has faced some very decent fighters for some one with so little experience. Obviously Gonzalez is one of them though another is Manuel Vargas who was stopped in 3 rounds by the hard hitting Rodriguez. He is also, rather notably, the WBO's #10 ranked contender.
Whilst Sabillo first made his name with a win in enemy territory, stopping Luis De La Rosa in Colombia, this contest may well be a different matter all together. Rodriguez is tough, he's powerful and with the emotionally charged Mexican crowd cheering him on Sabillo seems likely to be in for a very tough night.
