One of those 7 bouts was a female semi-final bout at 51KG's. This sadly saw China's Ren Cancan come up short against Britain's Nichola Adams, who will be hoping to become the first female boxer to become a 2-time Olympic champion on Saturday. The loss for Ren sees her claiming a bronze medal.
At 56 KG's Uzbek fighter Muradzhon Akhmadaliyev came up short against Cuban Robeisy Ramirez, who will face Shakur Stevenson of the US in the final. Stevenson got through to the final courtesy of a walk over against Russian Vladimir Nikitin, one of the more controversial figures at the games. The loss leaves Akhmadaliyev with a bronze medal.
At 75KG's Arlen Lopez of Cuba defeated Azeri fighter Kamran Shakhsuvarly to progress to the final. Whilst the Azeri fell at the semi-final the same cannot be said of Uzbek Bektemir Melikuziyev, who impressed once again as he over-came Misael Rodriguez of Mexico. The final here looks to be a fantastic match up between two of the genuine stand out fighters here.
Unfortunately for Adilbek Niyazimbetov he came up short in his attempt to claim gold, with the Kazakh losing a decision to supremely talented Cuban Julio Cesar de la Cruz at 81KG's.
