In February Watanabe gym announced that a trio of former amateur standouts had signed with them and passed their B license tests. One of those fighters, Masataka Taniguchi (1-0, 1) [谷口将隆] made his debut today, and made a statement as he blew away Thailand's Phetsaifar Lukmaelamperigym (0-10) in just 118 seconds.
The talented Osakan, who went 55-19 (16) in the unpaid ranks, made the most of his southpaw stance from the opening seconds, landing his right hook and his straights left at will. The poor Thai had no idea what to do to prevent himself from being tagged by the the promising youngster, who finished the bout in style with a hard left hand on the jaw. The shot was like a thunderbolt, leaving Phetsaifar sprawled on the canvas.
Following the win the debutant seemed to be looking forward to his future in the professional ranks, whilst stating that he was looking to claim world titles in the future. Whilst he's a long way from those titles he is in a great gym which already has him training alongside 3 current world champions, and it's likely they ill help mentor the youngster all the way to the top.
