One of the highlight Japanese bouts for August will see the heavy handed Masao Nakamura (19-3, 19) battle against Daiki Kaneko (21-4-3, 14). That bout was mouth watering from the second it was announce and still looks to be an incredibly exciting contest.
Ahead of the bout Nakamura has been in the US training at the Ponce De Leon gym, a gym run by former world champion Daniel Ponce De Leon. Like Nakamura, Ponce De Leon spent much of his career as a fighter who depended on his power, before later learning how to hone his boxing skills. It seems like Nakamura has attempted to do the same thing and from what we've been told his time as the gym has seen him lean to fight "with his head" as well as with the power that he has been blessed with.
As part of the camp Nakamura was watched over by his gym chairman whilst the last couple of weeks he's had Nobuhiro Ishida helping him with advice and pointers. Hopefully for him that advice has sunk in as his fight with Kaneko really is a must win.
That camp has now come to an end and Nakamura will be flying back to Japan tomorrow to put the finishing touches to his preparation ahead of the August 21st bout.
