According to a number of sources WBO Bantamweight champion Marlon Tapales (29-2, 12) coult be set to return to the ring in early 2017 with a bout against Puerto Rican Emmanuel Rodriguez (15-0, 10) said to be in the works.
Originally Tapales was set to face and unbeaten Japanese youngster Takuma Inoue (8-0, 2) [井上 拓真] on December 30th, though Inoue was forced to pull out of the bout with a damaged hand. Ohashi had tried to fill the void by getting Tapales a back up opponent for the show, but Fuji TV are said to have vetoed the potential opponents, leaving Tapales free to negotiate his first defense of the title.
Although nothing is set in stone it does seem likely that a Tapales Vs Rodriguez bout will be taking place in ealy 2017 in either the UK, the US or Ireland, and it could be very interesting to see the developments involved in this one over the coming weeks.
