The 2012 Olympian was supposed to debut back in June though had his bout scrapped after his opponent was diagnosed with a serious illness. With that bout being cancelled Barriga has had to wait to make his debut but now appears to have a new date in mind, though no opponent as of yet.
Barriga's debut is highly anticipated following his success as an amateur, which saw him compete at the 2012 Olympics, the 2011 World Amateur championships and the 2014 Asian Games, where he won a Bronze medal losing in the semi final to eventual gold medal winner Shin Jong-hun. That type of success was expected to be continued at the 2016 Olympics but Barriga missed out as countryman Rogen Ladon qualified.
At the moment we've not heard who Barriga will be facing, but we suspect they will be a good test for the 22 year old prospect, that some suggest could be a major star of the future.
