Filipino based Japanese manager Ryuta Kato has ruled out the rumoured WBO Super Flyweight title bout between his charge Warlito Parrenas (23-6, 20) and world champion Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7).
The bout, which was rumoured recently, would have seen Parrenas, the WBO #1 ranked challenger, battle against the champion in a potentially explosive contest. Instead however Parrenas will be travelling to the UK where he will fight unbeaten Irishman Jamie Conlan (13-0, 8) in a bout that has been rescheduled.
Originally Parrenas was scheduled to fight Conlan on February 28th in Belfast though unfortunately Conlan was forced to pull out after suffering from flu and missing several key training sessions. The rescheduled date for the bout is now April 25th and will act as both a WBO eliminator as well as a bout for the WBO Inter-continental Super Flyweight title. in effective Parrenas will be fighting Conlan for the right to fight Inoue.
This move means that Inoue is still with out an opponent and we continue to strike of possible foes ahead of his first defence of the WBO Super Flyweight title that he won last year in impressive fashion, blowing away Argentinian veteran Omar Andres Narvaez.
