Earlier today saw current WBO female Minimumweight champion Kumiko Seeser Ikehara (6-1-1, 3) given a parade to celebrate her recent world title win.
The newly crowned champion got the chance to walk through the streets and a mall in Osaka with her belt over her shoulder and fans around her as the community came out to support a local star. According to reports there was a surprising number of fans who actually turned up to see the female fighter with some remarks expressing genuine shock at how many fans actually do follow female boxing.
Although not a true star, even in terms of the female boxing world, Ikehara has the necessary traits to become something more in the boxing world. She has the looks, the award winning smile, the natural charisma and charm to really attract many more fans to the female part of the sport, as long as she can keep winning.
Hopefully this won't be the only public celebration from Ikehara and, fingers crossed, she will manage to attract larger and larger support as female boxing continues to grow in Japan with a number or attractive and talented fighters, such as Nana Yoshikawa and Yuko Kuroki, all emerging at the same time.
