The bout will be Tanaka's first defense of the title, a title he won in sensational fashion back on December 31st against Moises Fuentes. And the bout will see him look to continue building on his glowing status as one of the top young fighters, in fact at 21 he's the youngest active male world world champion and one of the youngest ever multi-weight world champions in the sport.
Acosta earned the right to face Tanaka back in back in February when he stopped Namibian fighter Japhet Uutoni (12-2, 5) in 10 rounds, extending his KO run to 16 straight stoppage wins. That fight had Tanaka in the venue and it was clear that the Japanese champion was scouting his potential foes.
The fight will take place in Tanaka's home city of Nagoya, and will be held at th Takeda Teva Ocean Arena, which appears to have never held a boxing event before. At the moment no details from the undercard have been released but we do know that CBC will air the bout live, potentially streaming it internationally as they did with Tanaka's last bout.
