Boxing in Korea is small game, in fact it's been struggling for so long that it's amazing to see the small growth we've had in recent times. Sadly due to the small interest in the sport in Korea right now fighters have limited opportunties for fights and pay days.
Earlier this month we saw WBA female Super Featherweight champion Hyun Mi Choi (13-0-1, 4) [최현미] make her on going struggles obvious as she looked towards crowd funding to help finance her career.
The unbeaten 2-weight champion is the only Korean fighter to currently hold a "Big 4" world title but is still struggling to get the money she needs to pay her way in the sport.
The talented Korean, originally from the North but now based in South Korea, has set a target of ₩15,000,000, of which she has gained about 2% of at the moment. Whilst the target might look large it's around $13,000 or £10,700, a small number compared to what world champions can make in the West.
For those wanting to support the "Defector Girl Boxer" her crowd funding page can be found here.
