On December 30th fight fans will see an all-Japanese world title bout as WBO Super Flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9) [井上 尚弥] defends his title against countryman Kohei Kono (32-9-1, 13) [河野 公平]. Today, ahead of that bout, Kono took part in a public training sessions and looked well prepared for his bout with the "Monster".
At the work out Kono stated he had been training hard and put in a lot of rounds sparring, helping prepare for the champion. Although the training camp had been hard he obviously wasn't alone with two of his stablemates fighting in significant bouts the following day, with one of those being former Inoue foe Ryoichi Taguchi who gave Kono various bits of advice.
Kono seemed to suggest that this was his first fight of middled aged lifeand it seemed that whilst he knows he up against a trmendous opponnent he is also confident of using his toughnessand his xperience to try to defeat Inoue. He seemed to know that his best chance of winning was to try and stop Inoue, almost accepting that he couldn't claim a decision by out boxing the amazing youngster.
