Earlier today saw the opening ceremony of the new Akiba-boxing and fitness gym, a gym run by former Japanese fighter Keisuke Akiba. The gym, which officially opens tomorrow, saw the popular Mr Akiba invite officials in as well as some close friends from the Japanese boxing community, such as current OPBF Super Middleweight champion Yuzo Kiyota.
If you've followed the Japanese domestic scene religiously over the last decade you may have heard of Keisuke Akiba, for many others however the name won't mean anything. He fought between 2002 and 2009 and ran up a less than stellar record of 11-7-4 (2) though did mix in good company and managed to have a really competitive bout with Takahiro Ao in 2007 for the Japanese Featherweight title.
Aged 37 Akiba is one of the youngest gym presidents out there and and given his youth and experience as a fighter we suspect he'll manage to run a successful gym here.
