Yesterday fight fans in Japan saw Kazuto Ioka (21-1, 13) [井岡一翔] retain his WBA Flyweight title with a stoppage win against tough Thai teenager Stamp Kiatniwat (15-1, 6) [แสตมป์ กระทิงแดงยิม]. Today, following that win, Ioka took part in a press conference to talk about his future.
The Osakan star stated that in 2017 he's wanting to have a unification bout, and actually name dropped Chinese fighter Zou Shiming as his target. Althougha bout with Shiming is unlikely to be pursued by the Chinese fighter, or his American promotional team Top Rank, it's nice to see that Ioka is now chasing big bouts and is seemingly set on establishing himself as the premier Flyweight. He also seemed to hint that he would travel to face Shiming and it seems like a bout in Macau would be something he'd happily take.
The 3-weight world champion also stated that he was planning to get married to his partner during the coming year. There isn't a set date for the wedding from what we understand bu March was mentioned as a possibility.
