Earlier today saw Green Tsuda announce two new signings to their gym. One was the WBC female Flyweight champion Shindo Go, who had made a transfer to the gym ahead of her upcoming title defense, whilst the other was that of former amateur star Kazuki Tanaka, a man who is being viewed as a potential champion.
As an amateur Tanaka run up an excellent record of 63-14 (14), including an amazing 19-1 in his 4 years as a fighter in university. Whilst he lacked much in terms of major competition wins he did show a lot of the traits that that interested promoters and it took little time for Green Tsuda to strike a deal with the 21 year old fighter.
The young fighter said that he had signed with Green Tsuda due to feeling indebted to the gym's chairman, Masaya Motoishi, who is apparently an old acquaintance. Motoishi sounds confident about his new fighter and has suggested that Tanaka has the potential to be a world champion and will be going for titles inside 4 years. As a Bantamweight that would be a very impressive goal for Tanaka to hit.
Although not yet licensed as a professional Tanaka is scheduled to under-take a B license test on September 28th at the Ioka gym. If he passes that as expected he will be making his debut in a 6 round bout on December 7th.
