Last week we reported that the IBF would not be mandating a rematch between IBF Minimumweight champion Katsunari Takayama (29-7-0-2, 11) and Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (27-4-1, 15). Since then news went quiet on what the future would hold for both men, though the general view was that Takayama would be in action at some point in September.
Over the last 24 hours it has been reported that Takayama will, indeed, be in action in September as he seems to have been the latest fighter added to the Ioka promoted card on September 27, a card headlined by Kazuto Ioka Vs Roberto Domingo Sosa. Interestingly this will mark the 4th time time in 5 fights that Takayama will have been in a supporting role on a card headlined by Ioka.
We've also recently reported that Ryuji Hara (19-1, 11) had been scheduled to fight on August 20th, on an Ohashi promoted card headlined by Hara's stablemate Satoshi Hosono, before having his bout changed to an exhibition contest.
It now seems that the two stories have collided with a number of sites in Japan now reporting that a deal is in place for Takayama to defend his title against Hara on the aforementioned Ioka card, with the bout to be aired on TBS as the co-feature bout.
The story emerged following the release of tickets for the event which listed the bout as one of 3 bouts confirmed for the card, along with the main event and the Japanese Super Flyweight title fight between Sho Ishida and Hayato Kimura.
Whilst the official announcement regarding the bout hasn't yet been made it is expected in the next few days. Many are suggesting it will be confirmed in the next 72 hours, though it may be revealed on August 20th in Tokyo following Hara's exhibition.
If the bout does go ahead then it will be Takayama's 2nd defense of the title that he re-won last December, also on an Ioka card, whilst it will also by Hara's first world title bout. It will be a great bout between two talented fighters with speed to burn, though it would feel like a let down considering Takayama had been rumoured to fight in unification bouts with Hekkie Budler and Kosei Tanaka. Saying that however unification could happen later this year.
Fore those interested in tickets for the event they can be ordered here.
Note-This was originally posted as a rumour though has since been confirmed by the ticket website!
