Tomorrow Japanese fans will get the chance to seen teenage hopeful Riku Kano (9-1-1, 5) step up in class to face former WBO Minimumweight world champion Merlito Sabillo (25-2-1, 12) in a bout for the OPBF "interim" Minimumweight title.
Today, ahead of their bout, the two men took part in a weigh in for the contest and both made the 105lb limit.
On the scales the older, more experienced, Sabillo was way under the limit coming in at a shockingly low 103¾lbs, the tied lowest of his career. This is the third time Sabillo has been 103¾lbs, with the first time being his 2011 win over Rodel Tejares for the OPBF title and his second coming in March 2013 against Luis De La Rosa, when he claimed the WBO interim title.
Interestingly Kano, a hotly tipped 18 year old, weighed in at his lowest recorded weight, 104½lbs. Despite coming in under the limit he looked very confident and seemed very calm ahead of his biggest career bout.
