On July 20th we'll see Dominican power puncher Jonathan Guzman (21-0-0-1, 21) battle against popular Japanese fighter Shingo Wake (20-4-2, 12) [和氣 慎吾] in a fight for the IBF Super Bantamweight title. Today, ahead of that bout, Guzman arrived in Japan and appeared unnervingly confident of not only winning the title, but by doing it via stoppage any time he wanted.
The power punching KO artist arrived at Kansai airport and immediately seemed relaxed and confident. There was no air of fear about his first bout in Asia and instead there seemed to be a clear mindset, with the "Salomon King" stating that he was going to knock out Wake and had seen footage of the Japanese southpaw, making him aware of the style of Wake.
Although confident, the bout is a step up for Guzman who's best wins so far have been over Christian Esquivel and Daniel Rosas and sees him facing a stylistic challenger in Wake, who is a tricky southpaw mover who could seriously frustrate the powerful visitor.
For fans wanting to watch the bout, we now know that TBS will be airing the bout, along with the WBA Flyweight title bout between Kazuto Ioka (19-1, 11) [井岡一翔] and Keyvin Lara (18-1-1, 6), from 8PM local time on July 20th!
