Earlier today (April 9th) we heard the announcement of the Japanese monthly boxing award winners.
From what we understand the "MVP" of the month was award to the exciting Keita Obara (11-1, 10) who successfully claimed the OPBF Light Welterweight title with a 4th round KO over Filipino Jay Solmiano. Obara, who later called out Yoshihiro Kamegai, is now set to break into the world rankings and has been very impressive in recent bouts winning his last 11 contests.
For the fighting spirit award we believe the honour went to Japanese Flyweight champion Suguru Muranaka (20-2-1, 6) who successfully defended his title against Masayuki Kuroda on April 10th. Muranaka is currently ranked in the top 10 by all 4 major bodies and looks likely to be involved in a world title fight sooner rather than later.
As for the "State of the Art" award, that was awarded to Shingo Kusano (8-3-1, 4) who scored a notable upset over Tsubasa Matsuo on April 5th.
