On Friday the East Japan Boxing Association named the winners of the monthly awards for June.
The MVP of the month was the talented and unbeaten Rikki Naito who claimed an excellent win over Nihito Arakawa. The young unbeaten fighter, the current Japanese Super Featherweight title holder, was dipping his toes at Lightweight for the bout and although he didn't shine as such against his experienced foe he did what he needed to do get the win in a very good bout that should help Naito work on his flaws in the future.
The Fighting Spirit award was won by Moon Hyun Yun, who cared a 3rd round TKO win over Shiro Saito to put himself back in the mix for a domestic title fight at Welterweight. This was Yun's first stoppage win in almost 7 years and although Saito isn't a top tier fighter, even domestically, it was still a very good win Yun.
The "State of the Art" award was one by the very exciting Daigo Higa, who scored his 6th straight stoppage win as he took out Cris Alfante in 4 rounds. The very exciting 19 year old stepped up his level of opposition and shined here and many are now expecting him to continue stepping up towards bigger and better fights.
